Dallas soared through the air toward the direction Cookie pointed.

“We're getting close,” Cookie yelled with his head poking out of Dallas' pocket.

Ahead of them was Parkway Mall. Dallas had a hunch that the varjo was somewhere inside considering how horrifically crowded it was on weekends. Thousands of shoppers crammed together as they carried bags of merchandise that would smack you if you didn't pay attention. Some people would stand and chat in the middle of the walkway, causing the mall to feel even more congested. It was like being stuck in traffic during rush hour. Not somewhere Dallas would go on his free time, but definitely a huge target if one was seeking to collect a large amount of happiness from unsuspecting victims.

The quality of that happiness, however, was debatable.

Dallas stumbled onto a parking lot outside one of several side entrances that was in desperate need of repair, with numerous potholes littering about.

“You landed without crashing!” Cookie cheered.

Dallas ignored the unintentional backhanded compliment. “So, is it here?”

“Definitely,” Cookie said with a stern look. “What's the plan?”

“Plan? Don't you have a plan?”

Cookie shook his head. “I thought you might come up with one.”

“I have no idea what's even going on. Like I'd have any sort of idea on what to do. Whatever. I'll just do what I did at the park and walk around until I find something.”

“Good idea.”

“Also, stay inside my pocket while we're inside.”

Cookie frowned. “But why?”

“Animals aren't allowed to wander around inside, and I don't want you to get caught and thrown out by mall security, so stay in my pocket until something happens.”

“Okay,” Cookie replied as he ducked down into the pocket.

Dallas walked up to the side entrance and opened the door. A wave of cold air rushed around him as he went inside.

When people noticed Dallas they stopped and stared. Some talked amongst themselves and pointed while others took out their phones to snap a picture of him.

“You know, maybe I should have transformed after we found the varjo,” Dallas mumbled.

“But your wand doesn't work in your regular human form,” Cookie replied.

Dallas grunted. He pulled out his wand and held it out. A small orb appeared at the top and began to pulsate slowly.

“We're gonna have a lot of ground to cover,” Dallas thought.

Several minutes passed as Dallas wandered aimlessly around the mall. Everyone nearby would stare at him and comment. He could hear some make fun of him behind his back as others mentioned the video of him that was uploaded to the internet.

“Is that her?” one asked.

“I think so,” another replied.

Deep down Dallas wanted to shrink and disappear. His face blushed as he kept staring at the wand. No matter where he walked, he didn't notice any change in the blinking.

“Is it not here after all?” Dallas wondered, annoyed.

He walked in and out of every store he came across. By the time he had made it halfway around the mall he was prepared to give up and go back to work. He couldn't afford to be away from work any longer without one of his managers becoming suspicious of his absence.
